The
Union Vale Fire District serves the Town of Union Vale,
with approximately 5000 residents. Due to a shortage of
volunteers during the day, we have had to hire an
outside vendor to give us ambulance coverage during the
weekday hours. We have approximately 55 volunteer
firefighters, fire police, EMTs, and drivers, not to
mention the auxiliary who support them. Help us continue
as a volunteer organization by donating some of your
time, (the district pays for all training and equipment)
and as an added bonus it will help keep your fire taxes
down.
If
you would like to send a donation as a thank you or to
support the volunteers the addresses are below.

Thanks to outgoing officers and congratulations to
the incoming officers.
There will be a special meeting of the Board of
Fire Commissioners on January 20th, 2010 at 5:30 pm at Station 1.
BUDGET for 2010 has been finalized. Visit
the Budget Tab if you would like to see it. Please remember even though
there is a 9.6% increase, the budget was basically kept flat ($5,000 increase).
Because of the town wide reduction in assessment value the majority of
homeowners will see a very small reduction in the actual fire tax.
NEW FIRE BURNING LAW -
http://www.dec.ny.gov/regs/4261.html PLEASE REVIEW THE ACTUAL LAW from the Link above. A real
simplified overview is the following but it is your responsibility to verify the
facts.
1) If you need a burn permit you must contact
the NYS DEC instead of the Town of Union Vale. 2) The only burning that is allowed (again
check the complete regulation) A) Burning of brush (must have limbs less than 6
inches, not just leaves) and CANNOT BURN BETWEEN March 15th and May 15th B)
Barbeque grills and Sugar houses as long as actually cooking/processing food. C)
Small campfires with charcoal or natural wood but can't be left unattended D)
On-site Agricultural Burning (See rules very specific) E) Smudge Pots to prevent
Frost F) Ceremonial Bonfires with natural wood G) Flag Disposal H) Contraband
burning by Police I) Prescribed Burns on State Lands J) Fire Training
The District has approved the purchase of a
Tanker. It's arrival date is approximately June 2010.
